A small resource library being developed at RuLIV

RuLIV is developing a small library resource following the donation of a part of the library of former Rhodes University’s Professor Bill Davies, who has retired to Kwazulu-Natal.

The cataloguing of the library by Gavin Stephens is nearing completion and will soon be available as a resource for NGOs, development practitioners, postgraduate students and RuLIV client community-based organisations (CBOs).

Titles include seminal works on South African regional geography, economics, political science, the Social Sciences and Humanities with anthropology, history, sociology and regional planning.

There are also quite a few Journals available.

Commenting on the resource, RuLIV’s Executive Director, Nik Hugow explained RuLIV’s connection with Davies as long standing since Prof. Davies joined provincial government in 1994 where he built up an economic planning and research unit in the Department of Economic Affairs, Environment and Tourism (DEDEA).

Hugow said the collection represented a “good historic capture of Prof. Davies’ thinking and work”, specifically for the 1980-1990s.

Individuals and groups are free to use the books, journals and other materials on-site at the RuLIV offices.

Gavin Stephens has archived and catalogued the collection of books and journals, which formed part of Professor Bill Davies' library. The collection is now housed in a small library and resource centre at RuLIV
